Dr. Emily Ng

BDS, MDS, M(Orth)
Orthodontist

Hi, I'm Dr Emily Ng.

Did you know your smile has the biggest impact on first impressions?

I help people smile confidently and give kids and teens the best start with early dental care.

As an orthodontist, i specialise in  clear aligners (Invisalign), braces, and early growth modification, tailoring treatments to each patient’s unique goals.

Clear aligners are a game changer, often reducing the need for extractions IF proper diagnosis and planning are done well. Poor planning can lead to gum recession or even tooth nerve damage.

Mini-implants / Temporary anchorage device (TAD) can help improve the proportions and the chin contour prominence of people with a longer face type and expand the width of upper jaw in some case. These w previously not possible without surgery.

I personally design every treatment plan, customizing strategies to ensure safe, predictable, and long-lasting results

At the heart of it all, my mission is simple: you deserve a smile you love and peace of mind while achieving it.

Orthodontics is a partnership, and your effort should always be worth it.

Let's achieve that smile you've always wanted.

Education

Present

I believe in excellence and continual improvement.

Clear aligners:

My Invisalign accreditation course taught by Dr Vicki Vlaskalic who was one of the orthodontist who helped developed Invisalign in 1997.

To master Invisalign, I joined Dr Sandra Tai's residency. She is the author of the Clear Aligner Technique Textbook and I am very fortunate to have her as my mentor.

Airway:

A healthy smile goes beyond straight teeth—it starts with a healthy airway. Early intervention in children and strategic orthodontic treatment in adults can help optimize airway function, reducing risks linked to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and improve overall well-being.

Learning from experts like Dr. Han Hong Juan (ENT) and Dr. Lim Young helped me start the conversation with adults and guide children to ENT care or expansion of the upper jaw if needed.

Mini-implants / Temporary anchorage device (TAD):

I went to Yonsei University (Korean) in 2017 for a Mini Residency Course by Prof Lee Kee Joon. His use of mini-implants to help facial change without surgery was eye-opening.

In 2025, I had the privilege of learning from Yonsei University's Prof Lee again when he was invited by the Singapore government for a week of intense lectures and hands-on workshops.

He emphasised the importance of timely diagnosis and treatment in children to reduce complications from impacted teeth.

For comprehensive treatment, he explained how the width of the upper jaw is key, follower by the height of the face (which affects if the lips are able to close and how much the lower jaw can rotate upwards and forward for chin prominence) and finally the anterior-posterior (AP) position of teeth which is influenced by the first 2 factors.

With Invisalign and braces, we can improve alignment and protrusion of teeth (AP). For true expansion and intrusion of the upper jaw, mini-implants can be utilised.

His overall message resonated with me: base your treatment on science - cellular biology (younger = more stem cells), normal growth and physics (force vectors for precise teeth moement) for excellent clinical outcome. Braces, mini-implants and Invisalign are tools but how the orthodontist uses it are the key.

2015 - 2018

Masters of Dental Surgery

(MDS, Singapore)

National University of Singapore

Membership in Orthodontics M (Ortho), Edinburgh

Orthodontic treatment was NOT covered in undergrad, and I didn’t want to rely on a few weekend courses to master something so intricate.

So I pursued a full-time, 3-year master’s program in orthodontics under sponsorship, training with over 10 experienced orthodontists.

This equipped me to deliver evidence-based treatments and critically assess research to provide the best care possible.

My masters thesis on Intra-oral scanners garnered the Meritorious Award for the Best Research Project in the 2019 Scientific Poster Competition organised by the Association of Orthodontics (Singapore) Congress.

2008 - 2012

Bachelor of Dental Surgery

(BDS, Adelaide)

University of Adelaide

I love connecting with people, working with my hands and problem solving.

My journey began when I left Singapore to pursue my dentistry degree in Adelaide, Australia, where the focus was deeply patient-centric.

When I returned, I continued my training at the National Dental Centre Singapore, exploring various specialties through six-month rotations.

Orthodontics stood out—it wasn’t just about fixing a tooth but transforming an entire smile and the confidence that comes with it.
